LPC Kids

LPC Family Ministry Milestones - In 2012 we are beginning to recognize and celebrate the various stages of our children's spiritual development with Milestones. We currently do a variety of measures such as Children's Baptism or Dedication; but our desire is to create a series of milestones to mark a child's life from birth through high school graduation. We are excited to share more details of this program in the upcoming weeks.

LPC DNA - One of the milestones that each child at LPC will pass through is a class we are calling "DNA". In this class, we will learn what it means to be a follower of Christ, what are some outward expressions of our faith, what are distinctives of the reformed tradition and Presbyterian denomination. At the end of the class, we will have a formal celebration with both the individual families and the church congregation as a whole. Following completion of the class, each of the participants will be accepted as full members of LPC and will graduate from children's ministry into student ministry. This class will take place over eight weeks each spring. In this inaugural year, ALL students 6th grade and older, plus their parents are invited to attend. In future years, this milestone will be a part of the 6th grade student's experience.

At Leawood Presbyterian Church we value families and love children. Our mission is to assist parents in raising Spiritual Champions. We use Barna's definition of Spiritual Champions as "Individuals who have embraced Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord; accept the Bible as truth and as the guide for life; and seek to live in obedience to its principles and in search of ways to continually deepen their relationship with God. Spiritual Champions live in ways that are noticeably different from the norm -- even when compared to the average churchgoer." We look to the Deuteronomy 6 model in that parents are the primary spiritual leaders in a child's life. Everything we say and do ultimately points our children either towards or away from our savior. Deut. 6 also implies a community that collectively assists parents and builds relationships with the children in the church. Here at Leawood Pres, we want to partner with families and be a blessing by encouraging and equipping parents to be what God has designed and intended them to be for their children.

PandaMania FAQ’s

What is PandaMania? -- PandaMania this year was a Family Bible Experience. A week-long, summer program for parents and children to share and enjoy together in place of the traditional Vacation Bible School.

Why the change? -- We felt this new format would better fulfill our mission of helping parents become the spiritual leaders of the home. We strive to follow the Deuteronomy 6 model of parents leading their children with their church community in support. Unfortunately for many of us, we simply don’t know what to do with our kids away from church. Our prayer is that, with PandaMania, parents will have an instant connection with their kids--a connection that enables us to continue our spiritual conversations with our kids at home.

How does PandaMania work? -- Actually, the program itself is the same as previous VBS weeks at LPC. The time was spent in large groups rotating between various stations. The difference was that instead of volunteer “Crew” leaders, parents were the crew leaders for their family. Each family crew moved from station to station along with other families.

What do I have to know or do to be a the leader? -- Quite simply, you have to love your kids and want them to grow in Christ! There is no knowledge requirement or preparation needed. Each night after checking in your family, you simply move your family along a designated schedule through the various stations, where trained station leaders will present their lesson.

If I can’t be there every night, can my children still come? -- Absolutely! If you and/or your spouse are unable to attend on a particular night, your children could be “adopted” for the evening by friends or neighbors in your grouping. In the event you do not know anyone else at the church, we will have a select few “emergency” crew leaders.
